1. Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing, or using Hikae ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the App.

2. Description of service

Hikae is a receipt scanning and expense tracking application that helps users:

• Scan receipts using the device camera or photo library
• Extract receipt data (store name, date, amounts, items) using OCR or AI
• Organize and categorize spending
• View spending dashboards and analytics
• Search and browse past receipts
• View spending summaries through home screen and lock screen widgets

The App also offers an optional premium subscription ("Hikae Pro") that unlocks:

• Unlimited scans: No monthly scan limit
• AI-powered extraction: Higher accuracy receipt data extraction via cloud AI
• iCloud Sync: Receipt data synced across devices via your personal Apple iCloud account
• CSV / PDF export: Export receipt data for accounting or personal records
• Full dashboard history: Access previous months and month-over-month comparisons

3. Accuracy disclaimer

• Always verify extracted amounts, dates, and item details before relying on them
• The App is not a substitute for professional accounting or bookkeeping
• We are not responsible for financial decisions made based on data extracted by the App
• You can manually edit any extracted field to correct errors

4. Free tier and scan limits

Free users may scan up to 10 receipts per calendar month. This limit resets at the beginning of each month. Free users use on-device OCR processing — no data leaves the device.

5. Hikae Pro (subscription)

Subscription terms

• Hikae Pro is available as a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription
• Subscriptions are processed through Apple's App Store and are subject to Apple's Standard End User License Agreement
• Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase
• Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
• You can manage or cancel your subscription in your device's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions

Free trial

• A free trial may be offered for the yearly plan
• If offered, the trial provides full Pro access for the trial period
• The subscription begins automatically at the end of the trial unless cancelled
• Unused portions of free trials are forfeited upon subscribing

AI extraction

• Pro users' receipt images are sent to our server and processed by a third-party AI provider for data extraction
• Images are processed in real-time and not stored on our servers
• See our Privacy Policy for full details on data handling
• AI extraction requires an internet connection; the App falls back to on-device OCR when offline

Refunds

Since Hikae Pro is sold through Apple's App Store, refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with their refund policy. To request a refund, contact Apple directly through their support channels.

6. User responsibilities

As a user of Hikae, you agree to:

• Use the App responsibly and for its intended purpose
• Verify the accuracy of extracted receipt data
• Not use the App for fraudulent or illegal purposes
• Not attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the App
• Not abuse the AI extraction service (e.g., sending non-receipt images, automated bulk requests)

7. Fair use

Hikae Pro is designed for personal receipt scanning. We reserve the right to enforce fair use limits on AI extraction to prevent abuse. Excessive automated usage may result in temporary rate limiting.

8. Privacy and data

Your privacy is important to us. Please review our Privacy Policy for detailed information about how we handle your data. Key points:

• Receipt data is stored locally on your device
• Pro users' receipt images are temporarily processed for AI extraction but never stored
• We do not sell or share your personal information

9. Intellectual property

The App, including its content, features, and functionality, is owned by the developer and is protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You may not:

• Copy, modify, or distribute the App without permission
• Reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code
• Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices
• Use the App's content for commercial purposes without permission

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

• The App is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind
• We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
• We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the App
• We are not responsible for financial decisions made based on data extracted by the App
• Our liability is limited to the amount you paid for the App's subscription in the preceding 12 months

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the App developer from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from:

• Your use of the App
• Your violation of these Terms
• Your violation of any third-party rights

12. Third-party services

The App uses the following third-party services:

• RevenueCat: Subscription management. Receives only an anonymous user ID and Apple transaction data
• Google Gemini API: AI-powered receipt extraction for Pro users. Images are processed and not stored

The App does not use analytics, advertising, or other third-party tracking services.

13. Changes to terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we do:

• The "Last Updated" date will be changed
• Significant changes will be communicated through App updates
• Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance

14. Changes to the App

We reserve the right to:

• Modify or discontinue the App at any time
• Update features and functionality
• Change the App's appearance or user interface
• Change the AI provider used for receipt extraction

We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes.

15. Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by:

• Cancelling your subscription (if applicable)
• Deleting the App from your device

These Terms remain in effect until terminated by either party.

16. Governing law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App will be resolved in accordance with the laws of your jurisdiction.

17. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

18. Entire agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and the App developer regarding your use of the App.

19. Acknowledgment

By using Hikae, you acknowledge that:

• You have read and understood these Terms
• You agree to be bound by these Terms
• The App uses automated extraction which may contain errors
• You will verify extracted data for accuracy
• You understand the limitations and disclaimers outlined above
